Professor Jim Al-Khalili travels to Iran, Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, Spain, and Italy to chart the scientific achievements that occurred in the Islamic world between the eighth and 14th centuries. The nuclear physicist examines the development of algebra by the mathematician Al-Khwarizmi, improvements made to medical diagnosis by Al-Razi and the regular scholarly debates organised by the ruling elite in Baghdad in the eighth and ninth centuries (888)
